Only people who think there should be a crocoduck are stupid, some other kinds of creationist are a little more smart. That what I meant last post, that to the ID argument there are no gaps. The more complex and fascinating the world becomes with new knowledge, the more engineered this all can seem.

People like your friend's brother should not be allowed to breed.

That quote is spot on.

The sad part about it is that he did breed and with someone who is like-minded.

I hope the kids can overcome the idiocy that the parents will no doubt be drilling into their impressionable heads.

That's highly unlikely as they are refusing to send the kid to public schools and are home-schooling instead. It's too bad. So far the kid is really bright, as far as I can tell.

Why does it seem like it's always religious dimbulbs who want to "home school" their kids? Gotta keep the kiddies from learning about evolution and the history of the planet, I suppose. I can only imagine the rude awakening these kids will get the first time they go out into the world and try to function with the belief that man and dinosaurs lived together. Can you picture one of these kids getting on Jeopardy?

Contestant: "I'll take 'Extinct Animals' for five hundred, Alex."

Alex Trebek: "Possessing teeth up to seven inches long, this beast was feared by pre-historic man."

Contestant: (with smug look on his face) "That would be the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Alex!"

Audience: BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Because they are the ones who are most terrified of having their fairy tale belief system shattered.

It isn't for nothing that the "Tree of Knowledge" is the one that fucking god demands Adam and Eve not eat from.

I guess since they failed to get their idiocy into the school system under the guise of "Intelligent Design", they figure they have to pull their kids out of the public schools. I can only hope that when the kids grow up they ask their parents, "How could you teach me such absolute CRAP?!?!"

I would home school my children to offer them a better environment for learning. Not to brainwash them, but to disallow them being brainwashed. School is so opaque, you learn to work as a team, with a boss, on a schedule, with a deadline, from 9-5 five days a week. What if a person wanted more for their life than training on how to be a 'productive member of modern society'? I can't count the times I got removed from class as a kid because the history texts were full of lies, and the whole program was a sham. The emphases on maths, the only part of life that is black and white.

I would rather my children learned in a better environment, and learned more of what they wanted too. School (at least over here) is an indoctrination center, so I find it humorous that you guys are saying only fundies and cranks keep their kids from public school.

The only loophole is that it's harder to social adjust your children outside of school. Not impossible, but certainly harder. Do something social with all the time you free up from removing the poor kids from the underfunded, staffed by perverts and idiots and managed by people with strange world views, system of schools.

Fucking school. I got suspended once because I asked if we could learn about another genocide, other than the capital H jewish holocaust again year after year after year. Why did we learn about the capital H holocaust? Because lobbyists for Isreali public opinion have some control over what the schools teach the children. Add the homosexual lobbyists, and the pro-evolution lobbyists, and the creationism lobbyists, and the contract from pepsi and nike. No wonder the schools so dysfunctional that they can output honour roll HS graduates that are functionally illiterate.

But hey, only fundies and cranks pull their kids from public school...

I probably wouldn't homeschool my children, but I'd pay for them to go to a school that focussed on their abilities rather than gave them the standard boring education that everyone else receives. For a lot of people, the scheduled way of teaching prepares them for their inevitable life of office work, but for the people who actually become the "masters" as it were, it isn't a good thing to waste time on. I had a childhood fascination with computers, which was put on hold for 7 years whilst I went through the education system. Only now I am able to actually do what I always wanted to.

How exactly did you know there were "lies"? Can you give some examples? Or were these just the beginnings of what would become the conspiracy nut we all love to hate?

Erm...right. You know the Holocaust was an important part of history right? 6,000,000 people were wiped out by a fanatical dictator who went to war with most of the civilised world. It's not like you can just ignore that in a history class. If you did, you'd get other people complaining about how it wasn't taught, and how kids were taught about some other holocaust instead.

There isn't anything wrong with homosexual lobbyists, nor pro-evolution lobbyists. They are lobbying for the discussion of the truth. What do you see wrong with that?

I know exactly what you're talking about, I was building pc's and setting my home networks before i knew what an adverb was, but it wasn't until my 2nd year of high school that I started IT classes. By that time the 3 years of IT I did too at high school was totally irrelevant because i'd far surpassed the edu standard on my own.

At my school, they had a "raffle" for places on the IT course, which I lost out in. I'm actually glad of it, since I despise IT and prefer Computer Science. Making programs > Using MS Word.

RE: There is Stupid and then there is
Kids at my local school with more than a passing interest in IT were actively discouraged from taking the discrete IT subjects on offer, and in FE they prefer recruits that haven't been through that particular mill.
