I'm also a Schönberg fan. Verklarte Natch, Drei Klavierstucke, the string quartets and such.

Even though he's considered one of the giants of 20th century music, can't say I've run into many people who are fans outside of those lurking in college music departments. I've got (and have read) his books on theory, form and whatnot. Most of it over my head.

Doom metal and Schönberg! Maybe dodecaphonic stoner doom metal? An untapped genre...

Hey! I'm a fan, and I'm not lurking in a college music department...

...anymore.

I'm currently addicted to the first chamber symphony (in particular the 9b version for large orchestra, maybe not the purist's choice, but I'm a sucker for late romanticism) and the piano concerto, which is very romantic considering that it's basically dodecaphony. But I also like the string quartets. 1+2 when I'm in a good mood, 3+4 when I'm really pissed off Smile.
We saw Gurrelieder in cologne last year in a great rendition.
I got hooked when we covered verklärte nacht (what a heart warming story anyways) and a survivor of warsaw in high school.

Will make my avatar post later.

Cool! Thanks! Love the blue painting. Well done.

Well, you are an ex-lurker...

Music major?

I was a wannabe music major while pursuing my business degree, hence my lurking.

And Alex, I'll have to check out the piano concerto. I agree with you on the string quartets. The first two more gentle and the second two a bit more fiery. The part writing in #1 is extremely dense from what I remember. Been a while.

2 -> 3 marks the transition to atonality, I think.

One time I played the trumpet! So ta. Big Grin

Nowadays the only orchestrated music I listen to is my husbands. He's a modern day Mozart, no joke! Maybe one day he will feel up to sharing his genious with someone in this world other than just me.. *longing sigh
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
