Damned Corporate Cocksuckers
A new thread dealing with the criminals who infest our allegedly 'free-enterprise' system.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/01/05...properties

Quote:If you've ever stayed at a Marriott, you've likely been outraged over their exorbitant fees to access the Internet in your room. In 2012, these chains charged an average of $13.95 per day for basic service, despite the fact they paid an average of $2.50-$4.50 per room, per month. And when we say "basic", we mean below average, barely better than dial-up service. The fee goes up if you want to stream video to your device. It is no wonder many travelers have turned to personal WiFi devices to circumvent these overpriced and under-delivering networks.

Now Marriott and the other large hotel chains are now looking to block these personal WiFi devices all together:

Marriott International and the American Hotel and Lodging Association are asking the F.C.C. to give hotels the green light to remotely disable the Wi-Fi devices that some travelers use to connect their laptops and tablet computers to the Internet through cellular services from companies like Verizon. This would force guests to buy the wireless Internet service provided by hotels.

How is this different than say a movie theater banning patrons from bringing in outside food and soda?

Another fine example of the problem. See? You can do it if you try.

I imagine that if the Marriot bans people from making their own wifi hotspots. People who want to make their own wifi hotspots won't be their customers anymore. They will go to the Hilton instead.

If you bother to read the article they are asking ( and we all know how people 'ask' in Washington ) the FCC to change the law which prevents them from blocking wifi access. Do you seriously think that the other corporate scumbags won't jump on the gravy train?

I did read the article....and they are not asking the FCC to change the law. They are asking the FCC if the law allows them to block the setup of private wifi access points. They are looking for guidance. I'd advise you to read the article but the its probably too challenging for you.

Why do some hotels offer free HBO and other's do not? Why do some Hotels have pools and a continental breakfast and others do not? Not every Hotel Chain charges for WIFI....in fact most do not.

You grew up sucking on the tit of government and have no idea how things work in the business world.

Use hotels.com or any of the other services to look for rooms. You can find out which offer free internet and which don't. It isn't difficult information to find in my experience.

Now I know why you are the way you are, Woodie.

Quote:In its petition, the hotel industry asks the commission to create an exception to rules that prohibit anyone from “willful or malicious interference” with wireless communications that are “licensed or authorized” by the government.

You have the reading comprehension skills of a gnat.

From the NY Times link.

Quote:In its petition, the hotel industry asks the commission to create an exception to rules that prohibit anyone from “willful or malicious interference” with wireless communications that are “licensed or authorized” by the government. The industry asserts that because Wi-Fi signals use unlicensed frequencies, they do not deserve the same protection as licensed services like cellphone networks. That is an absurd argument, since the government has authorized unlicensed Wi-Fi devices and networks. Other countries, like Britain, prohibit “deliberate interference” of wireless communications.

In October, the F.C.C. fined Marriott $600,000 for preventing customers from using their own Wi-Fi devices at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville. The commission said the hotel was charging people attending and exhibiting at a conference $250 to $1,000 per device to connect to the hotel-operated Wi-Fi service. Previously, the F.C.C. prohibited Boston’s Logan International Airport from blocking Wi-Fi networks set up by airline clubs.

Hotel industry officials say they want to protect guests from rogue Wi-Fi networks that are designed by criminals to look as though they are part of hotel-operated Wi-Fi systems and that are used to hack into travelers’ computers. They say this issue is a particular worry at conferences where dozens of exhibitors and thousands of visitors are using Wi-Fi.

Bold #1 - How much more clearly do you want them to say it?

Bold #2 - The fuckers already got fined for doing it and don't want it to happen again.

Bold #3 - The hotel chains are full of shit.

And so are you.
