I haz dual boot. I use Linux for everything and windows for video streaming portals that insist on MS silverlight and similar nonsense.

Give and take. Low quality for the game, or low quality for literally everything else you do on the computer.
Also, dual boot. Keep a partition or a hard drive for gaming. Get a laptop that supports multiple hard drives, and keep one for Windows. Ubuntu's boot loader will let you select which OS you want to boot, and boom. You don't have to deal with M$ except as the environemt to load your games.

I'm mostly concerned about video and screen quality (1080pHD) and that works using Windows. If you've got a powerful enough system, run one of them as a virtual machine. It's how I dabble with Linux when the urge to kill strikes.

I consider Vbox a sort of "padded cell" in which to contain Windows. I feel safer this way. 
From my perspective here, what really sucks is that they removed mainstream support for Windows 7 before 10 was released, leaving users with a choice to continue using an unsupported product, or switch to one that is widely considered to suck (Windows 8).
