You'll always be able to skin Windows back to whatever you want:

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

Okay, thank you for that. I've never been too comfortable with third-party applications which modify the basic OS but I'll make an exception here.

Yeah, I think I'll pass on installing something that replaces a system DLL and stick to installable themes that don't do such bullshit.

Any bit of software that advises me that I may have to turn off antivirus during install isn't something I'll ever be installing on my system.

A few years ago it was Norton (I think) antivirus that attacked a core Windows file on normal regular XP machines that had just had a Microsoft security update, and crippled millions of systems so they couldn't run. AVAST! modifies the bootscreen (unless you tell it not to), which is far more dangerous than modifying icons in a .dll file.

The first versions of windows were pretty stable. But past 98, just about every other one was a real piece of shit. I have windows starter, and it has even with it's problems, been the most stable OS I have had.

One thing about OS which pisses me off, is a monopoly which is supposed to be banned, much like a car company isn't allowed to sell you a car and demand you get it fixed at the dealership. But when you buy a new computer, a lot of the time unless you are an uber computer egghead, you cant go back a version if you don't like the new one.

To be clear not all monopolies are banned - For example, public services like healthcare and education are mostly public and it gets worse with things like electricity and water - They're essential goods. As for the OS, it's not a monopoly because apple computers bring the Mac OS system - But there's many reasons it works like that, one of them is that most people are only capable of using windows... Rest assured, you are not forced to keep it and you can remove it anytime.

In computer science class, I wrote a program that replaced the windows 3.1 boot screen on the school computer with a funny meme of the vice principal, with two days delay, by patching the win.com. True story.

First off, what is comparing public utilities to private business? If anything they are monopolies because they are government contracts with private companies, instead of being government owned.

Secondly yea Apple does compete with MS, I am not that stupid. But that's like saying there is Shell and Exxon and BP, so what? They all produce the same things and compete against each other;

The illusion of a consumer driven market is what far too many buy into. The competition at the CEO shareholder level. It would be nice if our market was not dictated by the top, but to imply it is not is a joke.

Duke energy is a private company contracted by the state to proved electricity. Yes that a monopoly, what could break that up is allowing individual homes and businesses to have their own.

Our current market is a monopoly by 1 class. Don't mistake "variety" as giving us power. You go to any big chain selling anything, the prices are relatively within the same range. There is no competition.

I don't buy new things anymore precisely because of this. Not going to put myself into dept when I can buy something used or wait until the price goes down. Food on the other hand, I know the difference between how full you shopping cart could get 20 years ago, vs now.

The private sector is not something you can get rid of, but no, sorry to claim there is no monopoly is a joke, and there are still some things I don't think are good under the private sector, such as utilities and health care.
