Because they make them feel insecure. If they were strong in their believes, they wouldn't have to delete or ban.

But personally, I don't see the point in visiting a christian board. What's to gain? Neither do I believe that they're open to reason, nor do I wish to go out and convert. It would be just about throwing shit at each other and that's not on my list of favorite sports.

That's why I also refrain from visiting conservative boards. Just as with christians, I know what they stand for. So there's nothing to gain knowledgewise either.

Sometimes I'm curious what Christian life is like for other people - what they believe, why they believe, what they experience, etc. I found that ex-Christians are much more willing to discuss those things than Christians.

I hear you. I was a semi-active member at one Christian forum, not in order to troll, but rather to discuss, at the invitation of a member at ThinkingAloud. I didn't push my own views, and found that their views weren't terribly useful, so I stopped visiting.

I apparently signed up to CARM's forums as well, without ever posting. I just took a look at one of their threads .... your typical battle of the Bible verses. Funny how the infallible word of a perfect deity is so often subject to multiple interpretations.

For those of you who want to join Christian forums why don't you go undercover? It's a great experience.

I personally have issues with going undercover. I've never been much for casual deception, I pretty much only lie when the truth would do more damage.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

There's an apologetics group I'm in on Facebook, but it has two main problems:

1) There is an abundance of people who view that higher education is just liberal, atheistic indoctrination, that YEC, the historicity of Jesus, and Biblical accuracy are so completely and utterly factual that they are beyond reproach, and that atheists really know God exists. Once you get past that, there's not a lot to talk about. I spend most of my time finding the less crazy Christians to talk to or pointing out the really absurd statements.

The percentage of posters who look like Poe-level fundie whack jobs is insane. Just thinking about it is making me consider quitting the group.

2) It's Facebook. It's not a very good platform for these types of discussions.

I don't understand the point.

It seems like the only reason I could think of for me to join a Christian board would be to troll. To illicit a response and revel in it. Which is not appealing to me in the least. I can see why Christians or theists in general would join a non-believer or atheist forum. It makes sense. They are "called" to witness, so they get their Jesus rocks off by coming here. I can imagine that they might want to come here to "see what a community of atheists are like," as well.

But I know what Christians are like. I have family that is perfectly representative of a religious forum. I am not interested in proselytizing. I don't care if they stay Christians or not so long as they leave me alone.

I don't know.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
