Believing in irrational or unrealistic things is merely an aspect of our intelligence (some would argue the lack of) - we far too often feel we cannot accept things, so instead we develop coping mechanisms to compensate. It is not wrong to believe in the irrational - merely wrong to treat it other than what it is, or ascribe some modicrum of authority over that which is rational.
