That doesn't happen though because most voters think their individual representatives are doing a good job. It's everybody else that is fucked up.

Or, maybe, it's that people believe that Wall St. will continue running the country no matter who gets voted in.

The idea that an individual vote matters is mere illusion.

It depends, if everyone voted for the communist party I doubt things would not change. I'm not saying to vote communist, but to say there's no alternative is naive, the alternative is there.

Eventually people make up their minds - Not everyone would vote blank. The objection I have here is that while the purpose is to give more power to worthy parties, I'd like to know what proponents of mandatory voting would say if they knew the party they hate the most would gather more votes with this measure

There have been times I haven't voted because I haven't liked any candidate. I would have shown up to the polls, however, if there had been a "none" option.

I like that Obama can condescendingly dismiss calls by the majority of the populace to legalize marijuana by admonishing them to focus on more important matters but then goes and floats this turd of an idea.

Marginalizing this issue as a black man is so dumb. Legalizing weed means decriminalizing it, and how much money will states make in tax revenue as well as save in prison costs?

So Obama has floated the idea of mandatory voting in the US in order to offset the influence of big money. At first glance I think it sounds like a good idea, but would require changes at the polls on the state level in order to accommodate the additional voters. I don’t think people should be required to vote for a candidate though so a none option on the ballots would be necessary.

Call me old fashioned, only property owners should get to vote.

My stepfather proposed that only people who pay more to the government than they receive from the government should get to vote. I asked if farm subsidies, money earned stocks held by corporations getting corporate welfare, tickets to subsidized orchestras, etc., would be included. No, too complicated he said, only direct welfare should be considered. At which point I decided it was a really bad idea.
