Indeed. That's why men invented religion. That and an attempt to communicate with the weather.

RE: Ignorance
I don't feel any innate urge to talk to clouds. I do say things to the snow and ice, but it ain't 'communication'. I'm pretty sure our ancestors will have been pondering the mysteries of death long before they dreamed up climate control.

I was referring to things such as the wind, rain, thunder and lightning and the seasons.----There was once an insignificant tribe of Bronze Age goat herders who stole a petty storm god from the Sumerians. A nasty little turd: petulant, jealous, ruthless, vindictive, sadistic and fickle. The name of that god was "El' (he)
Over centuries that nasty little turd was transmogrified into YHWH (Yod,He ,Wau, He; I Am Who Am) The one God of three world religions.

One of THE purposes of the god Kings of say Egypt and Meso America was to communicate with their gods to control the seasons. This was literal, not symbolic.

Not something I've heard before Padraic, thankyou. I think I've met him Smile Yes, I get it about the weather thing, I just try to tranlsate this stuff to my own experience. I think that's valid, but I'll accept criticism for it being an 'ignorant' perspective. I suppose I'm cosseted to such an extent that the weather is merely inconvenient for me, and not deadly. Usually.

RE: Ignorance
man invented religion? i agree, religion is mans undying yet distorted attempt to get to GOD. man can never get to GOD, GOD is beyond and above man. FOR THIS reason every attempt man made to get to GOD resulted in a new religion. SO to finally end the confusion GOD, in the man Jesus, made contact with man.

But it didn't end the confusion did it?

If anything it made it worse.

So yet another example of god fucking up.ClapClapClap

RE: Ignorance
it ends the confusion for those who find JESUS, who is the truth the way and the life. those who know Jesus know the truth.note every other religion is mans doomed attempt to reach up to GOD, doomed just like the tower of babel. THE bible on the other hand is GOD setting the record straight about his true identity and ending the confusion for the few that allow themselves to be freed by the truth contained in the bible.
SATAN constantly distorts mans view of GOD, in so doing sustaining the confusion that exists. the bible urges us to seek, and to knock with an earnest heart. you will never find GOD while at the time convinced of his non-existence, because according to the bible the fool has said in his heart there is no GOD, and how can a fool be expected to handle the truth even if the truth stared him in the face. if you allow the possibility of GOD in your heart while earnestly seeking THE Truth you wont miss GOD.

RE: Ignorance
Yes Deicide, I'd agree. But practically speaking, if I could, say, re-plumb a shower, and some other person cannot, that does make them relatively ignorant. On that particular subject.
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
— Robert Heinlein, Time Enough for Love
Done all but two. I don't see the need to invade anyone, and I haven't died yet. I can accept my own ignorance in many things. Doesn't mean I can't criticise others.
