Quitting habits.

That won't stop underage people from smoking, just like limiting purchase capacity doesn't stop underage kids from drinking.

It took me 6 or so serious attempts over a period of about 3 years to quit smoking.

You see I am certain that I have an addictive and impulsive personality. My brother thinks so too. I have never been a drinker but I got drunk for the first time and loved it. Love all kinds of alcohol I just cannot afford it. I feel I inevitably would have many addictions if i could. My willpower is so weak and i need advice that applies to all habits to willpower self control impulsiveness and addictive personalities. I am so glad i am not rich!

You're not alone - I feel exactly the same. I'm addicted to caffeine, nicotine, sugar and any number of psychological addictions/obsessions. And all of the above have already started to really affect my health. So I already feel I'm heading for an early death and there's nothing I can do about it because of my impulsiveness and lack of willpower Sad

I'm currently on a crash diet and have lost 12 pounds in about a month but that's only working because I can see the change every day when I stand on the scales. As soon as it plateaus for too long I'll probably lose faith and that'll be the end of it. So in other words I can't do it unless I can see the results right in front of me... I can't do it by looking at the "bigger picture".

I think the problem may be self-contempt and self-sabotage. I can come across as cocky but I feel it is a mask of artificial complacency and deep down my self esteem and self respect is rock bottom.

That grinning bit is one hell of a talent in the right circumstances.  You might also, btw, be a poor judge of character.....if your self appraisal is "rock bottom" given the field you're judging from.   Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Presumably your peers, your fellow man in the larger sense.  You;re telling me that of all people, with rock bottom being the absolute minimum....thats where you belong.  Thats how you see yourself.  Down there with the human refuse?  Thats the esteem you hold for yourself...that's the respect you deserve. None at all..even relative to the worst of us?

Bet you do.  You should break their fucking will sometime...just to check.   Lightbulb
(and also for the lulz)

-I think that you might be imagining some vast and important difference between yourself and the rest of us. Something interesting..to me anyways, about people with low self esteem. Whenever they explain it, they describe themselves as the lowliest of the low. The least ballsy of the half balled. In short, they seem to have a fairly high estimation of their low-esteem credentials. You know plenty of people like you....in fact, the majority of people you know are like you, eh?

Everyone gets their own way over me in an argument unless they let me win. And let me before I give up.

I have the weakest backbone of all.

Could put you on a 50, I'd trust you.  Positive outlooks help me to quit doing this or that(its a long list of vice, I'm working on it, lol). It's easier for me to quit when I allow for the possibility, at least, that this is a universe in which I am -capable- of quitting. It's not too wild a speculation, anyway. Might help you...allowing for that possibility regarding yourself. /two cents
