Horsetail Rush? Help greenthumbs!
My garden area is being over ran by what I think is horsetail rush (scouring rush...other names), and I know there are a few gardeners up in this piece. Does anybody have any tips on getting rid of this stuff? Thanks.

I'll be posting pictures after I post this:

From my searching, I think this is horsetail rush. Not 100% sure. I know I have some greenthumbs on here..*cough*..whateverist..SQ

Be afraid. Be very afraid. That shit is seriously difficult to be rid of. I have it too.

Belief .. is the insistence that the truth is what one would .. wish it to be. The believer will open his mind to the truth on the condition that it fits in with his preconceived ideas and wishes.

Faith, on the other hand, is an unreserved opening of the mind to the truth, whatever it may turn out to be.

Nuke the site from orbit.

It's the only way to be sure.
If any email controversy impacted the election, it wasn't Russian hacking of the DNC and  John Podesta's email, it was Hillary Clinton's decision to have her own email server and the subsequent FBI investigation which raised all the same  questions  Hillary Clinton has justifiably faced for decades about her trustworthiness and honesty.

Best advice, redesign your gardening features to incorporate it, rather than fighting against it.  It's better at this then you are.
(it's either that or you scrape the surface down to the sub, mechanically or chemically - glyphosate doesn't work, you'd need deep poison - whatever kills horsetail is going to kill everything else you have that I saw. Weeding it manually from the top only encourages spread.)

Didn't know we had a botany forum...

Crossbow has triclopyr, which is an herbicide that will kill horsetail. Glyphosate will not work, so roundup is out. Horsetail Rush is like wild garlic/onion. The root scar will grow new horsetail every time. The most effective way is constant weeding. The problem is if your neighbor isn't as consistent as you are, that shit'll be back. It reproduces like a fern, by spores. That shit's coming in the wind.

Realistically, OP will never be rid of it as long as the yard volume stays in place - the breakdown on triclo is too fast.
(notice it piled up in the ops yard on the windbreak, btw...right through all that gravel...lol?)

My gardening philosophy summed up-

So, with that crossbow stuff, I would want to pot all the stuff I want to save, then spray my beds? Is that a good strategy?

Also, you guys are fucking awesome. I love that I can come here with any problem and have this kind of support.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

if you're going to pot everything you want to save......scrape the bed.  Spray the triclo, sure....then scrape the bed.  Dirt is a dollar for 3 cubic feet at the Home Despot.  The selling point of garden pesticides is that they'll save you labor (bed scraping, for example)...but thats -ad copy-. There's no free lunch.

-When you replant, do it densely and avoid the gravel. You want to surface to be covered with some kind of turf or mat (so gravel is out...gravel is inviting weeds, think about it from the weeds POV..gravel and rough, bare places are sort of what they do - pioneers).

Yeah, he's either got to live with it, or remove the entire soil pack and keep the pH high enough that that shit wont survive.

Then have little islands for your hostas and whatever else you want to plant.

Yeah, this is the first summer at this house, so I wasn't sure if this shit was normal. It started out as this strange asparagus looking shoot with a fruit of some kind. I want to start designing my garden, and at least make the place look "on purpose", and I wasn't sure if this stuff chokes out other plants that I want to add. I'm reading that it could take up to 5 years to be completely rid of the stuff.

IMO, it's kind of pretty. If I could maybe just contain it to an area, that wouldn't be so bad, but from what I'm reading, it'll just spread.
