Whether they deserve to be called a bitch or not, do you want to be seen as better than them, or just not quite as bad as them?

You mean you want people to stop using argumentum ad hominem as their normal means of argumentation?

I'm disabled. I was born in 1975. The new term is apparently "PWD", which I am starting to get used to now. Back in the day, people used "cripple", which I admit I kind of have trouble with (kind of like "nigger" is still bad for the black community). It's hard to know where to draw the line. Old-fashioned terms like the "n" word sound bad, but so do the newest PC terms.

I just try not to care.

I guess so. I just don't always remember there's a term for that.

Sometimes the only possible reaction is to insult people. Some individuals are so outrageously stupid that my only will is to tell them "go fuck yourself".

This stupidly makes the assumption I have not been around the block, and they also said because I used, in this case the word "bitch" that I could not be a "liberal" and doesn't understand that that really is basically advocating a loyalty oath. In other words, there is only one right way to conduct yourself to be called a liberal.

When liberals say "words hurt" or "can hurt" that is a false argument which is not in dispute. The part these well intended liberals always fail to see, is that words only have the power we give them. They are the ones unwittingly enabling bullies, bigots, sexists and violent oppressors.

The worst part of this is that they think by censoring offensive words they can create a more peaceful world.  It is a chase for a utopia and that simply cannot happen in a diverse species. We will not always say nice things about each other. There simply is no way to justify putting words and censorship of ANY WORD on par with the truly oppressed.

It goes with any pejorative, not just the one in this example. This liberal, me, does not need lectures on word choice having been bullied, been called a dork, a spaz and beaten up as a kid, and as an adult and now atheist having that word being equated to Hitler and Stalin, I really don't need lectures on word choice and censorship.

After all, you are a little bitch yourself aren't you?

They think that e.g. using female gender based insults regularly, helps create a general climate in society where misogyny becomes more acceptable. I can't deny that it might be true to some extent...

Ultimately our word choice does not matter  if we are going to be civil and non violent. I am not arguing your intent, I am arguing against utopias.

And what do you mean "fuck you" is not fine? As Hitchens described many times and not just in his book, about the story of God asking someone to kill their kid, his response, and I agree would be "No FUCK YOU".

The only reasonable argument on word choice is "it depends". Getting into the game of who gets to decide what is or is not offensive is a dangerous game for all parties involved. The best I see my species doing being a worthy goal is agreeing that no matter what is said, you leave it at words.

NO, will not play verbally nice with assholes who promote religious bigotry. I will not play verbally nice with those who promote scientific absurdity. That does not mean I hate human rights, and all of us reading this who hold the label atheist have family and friends who hold beliefs. It merely means I will not sugar coat my words, especially when it comes to anyone promoting religious bigotry or violence.

No, what makes that perpetuate is the same thing that makes any pejorative linger, giving it meaning. And again, it isn't one word that bothers me, what bothers me is my species thinking our differences are best solved through taboos.

You focus on the word "bitch" because that is the example I used in the OP. Any word in our human language can be used in both positive and negative connotations.

If we stopped using words because others used them in a negative way, then none of us should call ourselves atheists. To say that the word "atheist" is not seen as evil or bad ever is an absurd argument.
