RE: math tard, Help
Alex: ah yes, thank you! That's it.

That is very interesting! I hadn't realised that before, about the losing properties.

In some ways things make more sense in the complex plane, because then any order n polynomial has n roots instead of anything from 0 to n roots. It's... complete? Is that the word? Been a while since my studies Wink It complements the real numbers to provide roots to all polynomials, not just ones that behave themselves!

I consider myself somewhat fortunate in no longer remembering how to do it, but in sparky school (more than 30 years ago) I was pretty good at complex math.  I even was able to write software for my pocket calculator that handled it accurately too.

In AC electrical circuits (everything from power to analog audio and video at the time) one needs complex math to describe (and predict) what's going on in regards to voltage, current and power.

I noticed on a recent TV show about Westinghouse, Tesla and Edison, the biggest factor in Edison's dislike of AC power boiled down to his inability to do the math describing it.  The global use of the Tesla 3 phase electrical power transmission is an enormous (and almost entirely unnoticed) tribute to Tesla.

(I used to be able to Thevenize too !!)

AC circuits is one of those places where one can have absolutely badass complex maths for really useful applications. Nyquist stability, yumm! The analytical properties of amplifier response functions in the complex frequency plane telling you whether the amp is stable? That's just cool shit.

Really, all this from what I saw on a tee shirt? Cautionary tale for starting a thread, be careful for what you ask for....? Going to go curl up in the fetal position now.

Let me give you an equation to determine the optimal fetal position...

Will it include instructions for the chant also? Currently it's I am not worthy, I am not worthy ...... but I'm open to any logical based direction.

x=y
x squared = xy
x squared-y squared = xy-y squared
(x+y) (x-y)=y(x-y)
(x+y) (x-y)/(x-y)=y(x-y)/(x-y)
(x+y)=y

OF COURSE ITS THE DIVIDE BY ZERO (x-y)=0.
I use this trick all the time with people who think a logical proof means anything in reality.
The next steps by the way is 2y=y so 2=1

I don't understand your statement. The whole point is that the above is not a logical proof because it contains hidden logically invalid conclusions. The fact that invalid arguments exist does not tell you anything about the applicability of valid arguments to reality.

@Alex
I agree and that;s the point. People like to use "logical arguments" (TAG or others) and they don't see the invalid parts, my point is just because things LOOK completely valid (every step in the formula is technically mathematically sound and the only problem is actually an exception (divide by 0) rather then any of the actual steps) if they lead to conclusions not in line with reality then reality wins and there is some hidden invalidity that may not be apparent in the argument. Logical arguments can never trump reality no matter how thorough they seem. Another example that I use is after a myocardial infarction in patients who survive atleast 48 hours the primary cause of death is ventricular arrhythmia. We have medications that suppress ventricular arrhythmia, so logically using these medications in patients after a heart attack should increase survival. The CAST trial did just that and found a marked INCREASE in mortality in the treated group.
My point is that logic can only take you so far, you have to test your logic in reality to see if there is a hidden flaw.
