IE... you can't go back in time and kill Hitler before WW2 because all of Hitler's past that we know would include your effort to try and kill him.

Maybe if you want time traveling to not have any paradox traveling to the past - maybe that's what you gotta do.
But hey, what do i know about the technicality..

Yeah, exactly, maybe that's why they say you can't ever change your past.
Even with timetraveling you'd not change nothin Tongue

If I were writing a sf novel I'd change the scenario just slightly such that you more or less travel to your own past, but this act opens up a new parallel timeline while your old one remains intact. That way you don't have to postulate infinite universes from the get go...

Yes, that is one of the approaches one can take.  If one goes back in time, maybe one can try to kill Hitler, but that does not mean that one will succeed.  There were many attempts on his life, but "god" protected him from them.

My own preferred solution is that time travel into the past is just impossible.  That seems to best fit the facts as we know them.

To me, that is not time travel at all, but just creating a new universe that is like what your universe was in the past.

RE: [Past|Present|Future] Timetravel - Hoax?
So basically a time machine would have to analyse every other universe and then arrive at the universe that is most consistent with the universe the time machine is present in and travel back in time in that universe and then make necessary changes to the future of that universe by changing the past of that universe.

So a time machine travels back to the past of another timeline rather the timeline the time machine is present in to manipulate the future of that timeline by influencing the past.

I could very well travel back to the past of the universe that is most consistent with the universe i'm currently living in - kill myself and take my place in that universe to which i travel to and then knowing the future course of occurrences(because of the consistency of the two universes) - modify my actions in such a way as to achieve the desired effect.

No more paradox's Big Grin
I'd still exist in my previous universe up until i left the universe and my history would be the man that traveled to another universe.

Shiiiiit this is awesome ! Big Grin

No. What I mean is, that attempt to kill him would already be part of history/the past.

Oh oh you mean like killing Hitler while he is alive! Not like when he's in like womb!

LOL something just came across my mind  - if i were to travel to the universe most consistent with my universe i'd probably see the me in the other universe traveling to my universe halfway through my journey.
