It doesn't exist yet but listen in this video what Michio Kaku says to those that are constantly saying "Fusion is decades away" (scroll to 1m36s)

I like Michio Kaku but some of the stuff he says is a bit over-optimistic when it comes to technologies of the future IMO.

RE: Solving The World Problems
There is no need to argue about solar vs. fusion. Certainly if fusion is successfully developed, solar (and everything else) becomes almost irrelevant but we know how to do solar now. Fusion remains an unknown because it's a very difficult problem to solve and we don't really know how long it will take to solve. People like to make predictions but in order to know how long it would take to make fusion viable, you would need to know the solution and we don't.

It should be obvious to anyone that the logical course of action is to pursue both of these technologies to the max. Solar is a slam dunk to be able to provide a sizable chunk of our future energy needs. At the very least, it's a smart insurance policy. The future of fusion remains murky but it has the potential to completely transform the world. If we manage to crack that problem, I don't think we'll be crying about how much money we spent on solar. We'll be too busy celebrating.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
