1.  Do you believe the person of Jesus Christ existed in history?  Why (whether yes or no)?

2.  Do you believe that George Washington was President of the United States?  Why (whether yes or no)?

What differences does it make whether he existed or not? That has no has no bearing on the claim that he is the son of a God and that he was resurrected.

Let me explain the logic to you.  The Bible says Jesus existed, and that he was resurrected.  If he REALLY existed, that demonstrates that the Bible tells the truth.  Therefore, if Jesus existed, we can trust the Bible when it says he died, rolled 100 and got psionic powers. . . ermmm, I mean, was resurrected.

How do you think this will go over in the south?

RE: question for all
1. A person probably lived a life of defying the pharisees and preaching to the people. He was then crucified and buried. Far later people remembered this person and wrote a fictionalized story narrating his life. This is what I think happened. Also, the gospels are contradictory, especially the ones not in the Bible. The most damning evidence that compels me to believe he didn't accomplish what is said in the Bible is that no known historian documented his existence at the time of his death. The actual Jesus was in my mind nothing like the biblical version.

2. I think he probably did exist. Many sources can verify his existence, and they align well for the most part. Although even if he didn't exist it wouldn't change anything now.

It all comes down to your standard for evidence, right? If you can believe contradictory documents with vaguely known authors nothing should be considered fictional. According to this logic there should be no difference in historicity between Matthew's Jesus and Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson.

You can get away with the Socratic trap if a) you are Plato and b) you are writing both sides of the dialog. Aside from that, it's almost impossible to pull off. Just state your thesis, make your argument, and listen carefully to the rebuttals.

He can pull bread out his ass and swap beverages when no one is looking too.

But then, I can do that. Am I Jesus?
