The figures reveal the continuing, extraordinary magnitude of minority incarceration and the stark disparity in their rates of incarceration compared to those of whites. Out of a total population of 1,976,019 incarcerated in adult facilities, 1,239,946 or 63 percent are black or Latino, though these two groups constitute only 25 percent of the national population

And this tells you what? That we throw more latinos and blacks in jail for crimes we let white people get away with? Or does it tell you maybe more white people have more money to buy that justice with? Or maybe, just maybe blacks and latinos are committing 63% more of the crimes than white, and all other races, are?

Oh, and btw....OJ is in jail, too.

Not for the murders of Ms. Simpson. He was a mega millionaire when he went on trial for that. Was comparatively broke when he went on trial for what he is currently incarcerated for.

Oh yeah right. White cops just hassle minorities. They're not catching them robbing raping murdering, oh no not at all, they're just "hassling" them. I bet your the type who tells the cop who pulled you over for not using your turn signal that he is 'hassling' you instead of being out there catching robbers and that you pay his salary. You really think only minorities get 'hassled' by cops? Me thinks you really didn't think this one through. Most cops are just doing their jobs. They "hassle" all law infringers not just the brown ones.
You are entitled to your opinion of the statistics and if you interpret them as "they are harrassing minorities" then go ahead.

Yeah. Agreed. But he could not afford to buy his way out of trouble any longer. He once could, but that broke him enough where he could not afford it a second time. He's no Bill Gates. Ol' Bill could probably afford 3 or 4 "get out of jail free" cards.

You have that right to disbelieve. However, is it a dichotomy? Is there only "friend" or 'foe' and nothing in-between?


At any rate the freindship status of your local policeman is not the question here. You have made the contention that white cops are prejudice and discriminatory and by extension the legal system is prejudicial against minorities. I challenge that. Now you allude that it's not the cop-on-the-street but their bosses.

If a portion of your city has a high crime rate then increased patrols are sent there. There is NO regard as to the ethnic makeup of that area, it's patrolled more due to the crime rates, period.

Increased police presence, more arrests, more convictions, more jailed offenders. Why? Oh because the perps are brown? NO.

Go to a predominately caucasion area/city. There will be a "bad side of town" where police presence is increased compaired to the other areas and more arrests/jailed people you will find. Matters not if they are white, brown or purple. Well, maybe maybe purple cause those damned purple people are always causing trouble and the cops are constantly hassling purple people.

That said, now if you want some real demonstratable discrimination in our legal system look to rich vs. poor.

Poor people get the shitty public defenders. POOR people, not just the brown ones. It's all about the almighty dollar and nothing else.

1st case: Mr. Ron Whiteman vs. State of Texas.
Judge: Hello Mr. Whiteman. Oh, Whiteman isn't here but his lawyer is? Ok, let's proceed. How are you today counsellor? Oh this? yeah, it's a $500 fine and 90 days in the hoosegow.
Lawyer: How about a $1000 fine and no jail?
Judge: Ok. No problem. NEXT!

2nd case: Edward Martinez vs. State of Texas.
Judge: Ok Edward this is a $500 fine and 90 days in the hoosegow.
Edward: $500?! I ain't got $500!
Judge: 180 days in jail then. Baliff! Take him away!

In these hypotheticals would you really think the outcomes are based on the color of their skin? Or would you conclude it had to do with who had cash available and who did not?
