Stop Necroposting

Stop Necroposting
Why do you have an option to post on a thread, when the last post was posted more than 30 days ago? I think it is an unnecessary risk for people to necropost, and it would be better if the option to post would be gone.

Thanks!

RE: Stop Necroposting
I do think it's a little silly that necroposting is now listed as 'against the rules', whereas before it was just a guideline (even though there's an exception, in the current rule).

I'd rather it was just a guideline, than an enforced rule personally, but it looks like the 'guidelines' section was removed. Unless someone's literally taking the piss and bringing back 3/4 threads that are way old, I don't see much of a problem. There's certain other 'rules' that I think would be better suited as 'guidelines' too tbh. Things that should not necessarily be strictly against the rules, but are frowned upon and if done repeatedly to cause disruption then it should be actionable.

RE: Stop Necroposting
There are some threads that go for more than 30 days without posting but that don't really come across as "necorposty" if you post after that. The threads in Area 69 for example, can easily be dead for over a month before being picked back up again.

RE: Stop Necroposting
As the rule states, you are able to necropost because of limitations in the forum software. We could put the limitations in, but then people wouldn't be able to necropost in threads which are covered by the exception (also stated in the rules).

If in doubt, create a new thread, or PM one of the staff.

RE: Stop Necroposting
Things that were just guidelines before that are against the rules now have insignificant punishments, by and large.

The change is that now if a member joins and necroposts 20 threads, we can take action against a rule violation rather than a 'guideline.'
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
