One Thing I Miss About Church is....

RE: One Thing I Miss About Church is....
If I could be bothered to go, I'm sure I'd note differences in tone, decrees, fealty, edicts etc. and it would be joyful unto my heart to contemplate were they wrong about that shit when I was a kid or are they wrong now, or are they wrong always.

Fucking proving God ain't unchanging, eternal, omniscient, perfect, etc. could make for a pretty enjoyable churchy service.

I bet they've updated the fucking hymnals too.

I never hated going to church the way some of you seemed to. Honestly, I really liked the church I grew up going to. The building was beautiful, a small, classic brick church and steeple and stained glass windows and statues. The priests were kind (Franciscans), no scandals ever. The Brothers were great with kids, doing magic tricks for us at recess. I remember being excited when I was old enough to receive communion, and singing joyfully, knowing all the correct responses to the calls, and so forth.

Picnics (yes, with awesome church made lady pie), and charity auctions, school plays, etc. All good memories.

I did not become an atheist because I hated church.

I didn't become an Atheist because I hated going to church. You can be a theist and not go to church. II didn't enjoy church because it felt like a waste of time. Not just because I don't believe in god now, but because it always felt like a waste of time. Even when I believed. For me, that's what it was. There were better ways to spend my Sunday's, such as sleeping in, and when I got married spending quality time with my husband. Especially when school is in, and I have to work. To me, church always felt like a chore.

The best part of going to church was that moment afterwards when you took off your church clothes and realized that at that point in time church was as far away in the future as it could get.
