Global ocean discovered on Saturn moon

RE: Global ocean discovered on Saturn moon
The radiation hazard at Jupiter is MUCH worse than at Saturn.

Spacecraft longevity is a factor.

The Galileo orbiter, in addition to the goddam stuck antenna had numerous issues with the radiation causing problems. Particularly galling was the only close flyby of Amalthea (600 km m/l) with no science return as the craft had a radiation induced brain phart as it approached.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

That's true, and they had to put it into that weird, looping eccentric orbit that kept it out of the radiation as much as possible, and thus limited the science that could be done at each of the passes, and how close they were able to get, etc. Good point; I had not considered that element.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

The looping eccentric orbit was desirable for other reasons however.

For one, with the antenna cramp, the data rate was abysmally slow, having the craft loiter and send what dribble back it could helped.

They never tried it with Galileo (haven't heard why either) but an inclined orbit would have greatly reduced the overall radiation dose. The craft on it's way there now will have a steeply inclined orbit, but the on board camera is an extremely wide angle model (for other good reasons) and so don't be expecting much in the way of satellite pictures unless it gets VERY close to one. It will get great shots of Jupiter's polar regions.

An additional camera with the resolution of the one on NH would have been a really neat upgrade. The NH camera has ~16 pixels of resolution for every pixel the Voyager cameras had (1 arc second vs 4)

There is no shortage of cool stuff that could be flown, the hangup is the $$$.

Something very similar to NH in a 300-400 day orbit around Neptune would be a great, relatively cheap mission, and it could potentially orbit Neptune for decades. (It's desirable to have long term missions on targets that potentially show long term variations)

A inclined orbit would reduce the opportunities for close encounters with Jovian moons.

I note Cassini managed quite a few satellite flybys (particularly of Titan) during the steeply inclined phase of it's mission.

Every pass thru the Jovian equatorial plane from a steeply inclined orbit could be near a satellite, and every one of those flybys could be designed to deflect the craft to pass near another (or the same) satellite on the next pass (or a multiple of passes) thru the equatorial plane. And if you had the NH (or similar) camera, even 100,000 km miss distances would yield very good imagery.

A remarkably similar mission could also be conducted at Uranus. (really!)
