Why even think about atheism?

If you're so worried about us going to hell, perhaps you can drop the ad hominems and bring in some substantive arguments. You know, actually convince us with evidence like people that value reason do.

That's why I'm an atheist. Because people like you are complete failures at defending your religion, and the best you can muster is masturbatory bullshit like this.

So, every time you see an atheist, I hope it reminds you of what a failure you are.

RE: Why even think about atheism?
The main reason we talk about this stuff is that someone has to tell these theists not to take their beliefs so seriously. The United /states was the first secular country. The founders saw the wars between protestants and catholics, and decided they didn't want that happening again. The first amendment is for the protection against religious or non religious discrimination, yet Christians have been trying to turn this into a theocracy from day 1. It's gotten to a point that some people legitimately believe this nation was founded on Christian principles, and they put the ten commandments on the supreme court buildings despite the fact that only two are actual laws.

We don't like what theists have done to our country. The Salem witch trials happened here because of religious extremism. We had a war partly because religious southerners thought they had a right to own slaves, and used the bible to justify it. Just recently some lawyer in California tried to pass state mandated execution of gays. Atheists are the most mistrusted minority in the country, for no reason other than theists claiming we have no morals.

I know you want us to get back in the closet, but there's only so much you can push someone down before they start to fight back. Even a dog will bite if it's hit enough times.

You know, Kingpin, I sometimes wish I was still a Christian so I could spend my time gutting the idiocy of these types of Christians from the perspective of a fellow believer, one who simply doesn't put up with the idiocy of this particular type of trollish moron.

As annoying and idiotic as we find them, simply from the bad argumentation and constant misinformation they vomit at us, they really have no true impact on us. But I know that when, on occasion, we get an idiot atheist who spouts ridiculous misinformation in the name of the same "Hi! My religious views are..." nametag I wear, it makes me shudder at the association.

I see a lot of those types of atheist trolls on Facebook discussion threads; I can only imagine that Christian forums are troubled with them, as well. But since this is my "home base" arena, I mainly see the Christian kind of troll, like the OP.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Why even THINK to indulge atheism?

Atheism isn't a thing you can consider or indulge.  In fact, there isn't a choice involved at all.

I can choose to proclaim belief or disbelief; that's a choice.  I cannot choose to actually believe or not believe.

I think I heard this on TTA podcast once:  If you hang me by my feet from the top of the empire state building I can proclaim that I do not believe in gravity; that doesn't change the fact that I believe I will fall if you let me go. (paraphrased)

I still have a hard time figuring out which ones are just trolling and which ones actually take this stuff seriously.
