I went to church today

Some people even go around after death and converting them to their religion.  I think Mormons do that (part of my family are Mormons, though I have no idea if they do that or not)

It doesn't hurt anything, but I think it's ridiculous to push a lifestyle on anyone.  Let them make their own choices in life.  Don't make the choices for them.

The original Christians held baptisms for the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:25 = https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se...CV;NET;CEV

It seems that people stopped doing it when they stopped bathing regularly after the fall of the Roman Empire.

RE: I went to church today
Myself and my 2 older sisters were all baptised like good little Greek kids living in Australia. Went along with mum to church most Sundays.
Still kept taking her 30 years later ... It made her happy.

To us kids, it the thought of God being real didn't even enter our minds in all these years... It just made old Ma happy...
I went to a Christening last year, sat through the service, I actually was disgusted with some of the wording of the minister.

(While Baptising her, he'd say: and she was born in sin and thus she shall die in sin, etc...) I felt like bashing the old bastard!

I quite like the architecture and art works in churches, but I do feel a bit uncomfortable in them, because I feel like an outsider.

I hate church funerals (not that I'm particularly fond of other funerals), because it's difficult to sit through a priest talking about how the person is in a better place when you believe that the essence of who they are has ceased to exist.

Don't you mean conversion factories.

I go to church on special events, it's usually fun after the priest has done preaching, and I noticed many people are playing smartphone games while it doesn't end. I spent the last sermon I went to talking to my GF by whispering to her how fun and sinful it would be if she jacked me off right there..

I like to think of it as more brain washing. I think that for most of us the washing began at a very early age.

I forgot to reply in this topic and hope it's not too late... I do sometimes go to church when I'm on the street and I really need take a dump I found that churches with their confession booths really do provide fancy privacy for taking shit in peace. Not to mention they even offer free newspapers at the entrance for wiping.  Great
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
