Same. I think tattoos are some of the ugliest things around. Most people with tattoos look to me, as if a bored child used them for a drawing pad a few days ago and they haven't washed since...

Triple bonus points if there are no cadavers on scene and no police en route to explain them to. Quadruple bonus points if there are.

Back in my old ST.com days I used to frequently argue with a religious nut (yes, they get everywhere), about tattoos...on women.

His comments basically came down to, "Women shouldn't get tattoos because they're unsightly, make them look ugly, I don't like them, and how dare they mark the skin that god gave them!!"

Oh, the same didn't apply to men, despite the Leviticus line.

The counter argument was always, "Who the hell are you to tell women what to do with their bodies just because you don't like tattoos on them?  Do you ever get the impression that women don't want creepy guys like you looking at them?"

OP:  just make sure that you get them from a responsible inker.

I have tattoos.  I love 'em.

Obviously, get images that mean something to you, something that you know you will love when you're 90.  I second the suggestions against names - unless they are your kids.  For myself, I don't allow faces either.  However, I have spoken to folks who have beautiful tributes to spouses, and they were glad they got them - - one still loved his even after a painful divorce.  So - only you know how you will react.

Avoid bony spots like the plague.  They hurt.  On any well-padded spot, well - - you know the sensation when a cat is on your lap and is happily "kneading" their claws into your skin?  It feels exactly like that - just more steady.  No big deal.

Here's what the wife picked out from google images, and it's about what I had in mind. Very simple, but could add on in the future I suppose:

Aw, yeah, that's sweet and simple.
Personally, I would go for a little more color. But, in this case, the wife probably gets to choose!

RE: First tattoo
I like the tattoo you have in mind, traditional and simpleSmile. And it's not as if you met this lovely lady a week ago and are thinking of getting her name tattooed! Personally, I've noticed the more complex tattoos get, the worse they look the older they get. I have a friend who went out and got this massive and complex eagle and flag tattoo when he turned 18 and it was pretty awesome when it was new (and done by a reputable artist). Its only 10 years later and it's not looking as good anymore, kind of faded a bit and not as 'crisp'. I see that a lot on people with sleeves or legs and you can tell the tattoo was once really nice but now isn't quite so great looking.

Meanwhile, my tattoo (one of those nights when I was 16 and had a older friend with a tattoo gun Tongue ) is just a very small, simple outline of a flying bird. I don't exactly remember getting the thing, but it hasn't faded or deformed at all and pretty much looks just like how it did when I got it. If I ever got another tattoo (which I can't really foresee) I'd keep it small and simple again. Good luck on yours though. You'll have to share some pics of it once you get it! Oh and congrats on 25 years!!!

Happy anniversary!
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Holy fuck, that's cool. Didn't know Banksy was doing tats now.

I've got three (a dragon, a harp, and some knotwork), my wife has five (none of your business), and one of the cleverest I ever saw was 'Namaste, bitches' on a girl's forearm.
