What do you think of this? 
Do you think it is nothing unexpected? 
Do you think it is silly or outrageous for them to say that Atheists that follow their customs are militant as opposed to actual Militants? 
Or do you think something else entirely?

Being Jewish is as much ethnic and cultural as it is religious. So I see no contradiction.

Exactly right. My wife self-identifies as Jewish - her parents are Reform and observant, and one of her brothers is a rabbi. She speaks fluent Yiddish and a little Hebrew, and makes a reasonable effort to keep kosher, but she's not nuts over it (she refers to ham as 'Jewish salmon'). That being said, she's got no use for gods, godism, or godists. She's a Jewish atheist.

Culturally Jewish and atheist at the same time doesn't seem that bizarre.  Apparently my family has been Christer for centuries, yet here I am.

Whatever people want to identify it, as long as it has some cultural basis is fine IMO.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

I don't self describe as militant, but I am a Jewish atheist.

I also make a mean latke and I don't dry out the brisket.
