Shell doesn't mind either way. She also currently has her ex-husbands last name, but she writes under her maiden name. If you regret that your wife still has her ex-husbands name, why don't you suggest she change her last name officially, but use her old name as a pseudonym when doing her art?

Well she'll answer to my sur name but really it doesn't bother me so much as it is.  We both agree her ex's last name combined with her first name trips off the tongue better than mine.  Then there is still the matter of her father's name to consider.  Polese, growing up, became "police" but she likes it otherwise.  I wouldn't ask her to change it to suit me.  I guess I'm not all that traditional either.

RE: Marriage Surnames
My dad was an only child of only children of only children. My sister and I are, literally, the only ones left. Whenever I see our last name, it surprises the shit out of me because it's very uncommon (at least here in the States).

Still, if I got married, I'd change it in a heartbeat. It's stupid and I hate it. I've thought about changing it to my mom's maiden name or either of my grandmothers' because all three are unique, but beautiful. I don't want to leave my sister blowing in the wind, but all bets are off if I ever get married, assuming his or her surname isn't "Asshandler" or something similar.

Or at least it isn't a well deserved nick name?

Wife and I kept separate names. The name of all kids was decided by the sex of the firstborn as we had planned.

I took that to mean the sex of the first born child would get the last name of the parent of the same sex.

RE: Marriage Surnames
My wife's last name was a polite way of referring to a penis. Maybe that helped with the change. I also dated a girl who's name was Crystaldick, just converted.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.
