Most news sources are politically biased one way or the other, which is annoying as hell, but it doesn't mean the conservative ones are always lying and the liberal ones are always correct... or vice versa. I know some people like to turn everything into a liberal/conservative debate, but is it possible that we can get back to the topic of the OP? I was asking a genuine question and would like to have an honest discussion about this, if that is at all possible.

It wasn't you.
The man didn't seem to go into too much detail. But whatever it was, it was enough to make him suspicious enough to consider alerting the police... though ultimately decided not to.

I don't think there is anything in this. If there were truly suspicious activity I think we would have heard from neighbors by now. The unidentified man in the article was someone that worked in the area and made his observations while eating lunch. I previously commented on the one interview I did see with an actual neighbor essentially reporting that there was nothing suspicious.
Although I maintain that there was nothing to report based on what is known, I will also address the absurd idea that the report wasn't made because of fear of racial profiling. First, if all that's observed is Middle Eastern looking people coming and going from the home of Middle Eastern people and that alone amounts to suspicious activity; it is an egregious example of racial profiling. Secondly, who is the man fearful of for racial profiling? The cops? Police are notoriously known for racial profiling. This doesn't add up. He couldn't possibly be concerned about public humiliation as police don't make public the identity of informants unless of course it comes out in judicial proceedings.
The racial profiling fear also flies in the face of the routine effort by authorities to ward off retaliatory harm to Muslims (or even people that are mistaken for Muslims) after events tied directly to Islamists. Considering the U.S. culture in general, it is hard for me to imagine any significant blowback from being critical of Muslims even as in this case if it is simply based on appearance and not action.

It's not just the blowhards, consider the crowd's reaction.
There is nothing reported to date amounting to suspicion. Any fear of racial profiling blowback, as it pertains to Muslims in the U.S., is unfounded.
