What do you mean "any cost"? We're talking about living in what would basically be a healthy, fully-functioning body... forever. What's not to want? If you ever get bored, by all means, you can still kill yourself.

When I first posted, I was thinking along the lines of incremental delays to the aging process through ongoing scientific/medical advances. I don't believe that it's capable of producing the sort ageless immortality that's being described in your above post, so I guess we're just not on the same page.

I'm imagining a desperate stretching of inevitable decay, not somehow becoming a Highlander.

Sure. We can all live and limit new people to replacing the ones that died from accidents and such.

How in the world would that work? Lol. Are we going to forcefully sterilize all men and women, except the ones we deem fit to reproduce or something?

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

There'd be no other way..and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be immortal in -that- world.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Sounds like we should just let nature do its job.

Immortality would open up a whooooole can of worms.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think it's wishful thinking. The oldest verified person died more than two decades ago at 122. Since then we haven't seen the exponential spike that these well wishers seem to think will happen. In fact we've always had people who have lived into their 90s and 100s since we've kept records. So the oldest someone can live has barely gone up since we've kept track of such things. I see no reason that we'll suddenly have this giant spike in how long someone can live.

That might work for a while but you would run out memory like an iPhone.
I'm sure we'll come up with a solution to that. Let us have those sorts of problems first, then we can worry about them.

Not necessarily. It might become available at a low cost fairly fast once it's achieved. You can only imagine how many resources would be put into it after we reverse the aging process.

We'd have to solve an even wider range of potentially more difficult problems.  I wouldn't be worried in the short term /w regards to resources...but there's no such thing as a short term to an immortal race. I suppose I just can;t see it leading anywhere but other choices that I couldn't possibly make or sign off on. Things I wouldn't trade for immortality.

Besides, I'm already going to live forever, or at least as close to forever as it matters to me. It'll be my genetic boot on the throats of the oppressed masses soon enough.
