"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I've decided that all theists that come here to preach in order to save us from ourselves are the true nerds.
But then you've got cute little excited animals from the Antarctic which fall into a whole other category of sad!

Everyone else is cool a bananas nerd!

I've played this, this is pretty fucking nerdy:

A type of MMORPG, known as a MUD:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD

It's like a text adventure only it's an RPG and it's multiplayer with hundreds of players online at a time.

I have played it and find it extremely fun and addictive and it makes me use my imagination a lot, I love it.

Only thing that does my head in is getting lost in the mazes, lol.

My geekdoms of choice have been X-Files and Harry Potter.

I dabble in others but I wouldn't say I'm a fully fluent geek in anything but those two.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

You're a language geek.

I have this t-shirt:

On my hard drive are all episodes of the 1980's cartoon "He-man and the masters of the Universe".... and also, of course, the Thundercats!

I remember programming BASIC on the spectrum... it was just following instructions from the book, but still programming!
Now, I do IDL, python and C/C++... trying to forget JAVA...

And.... I actually have a college degree on physics and technology.
Also, working in Nuclear Fusion.

In the meantime, I've taught my kids to play Mahjong (not that sissy solitaire one... the 4-player one with classical chinese rules). There's a computer version here: http://mahjong.julianbradfield.org/ (it supports networked players... anyone interested?)

Readings under this belt
- Pale Blue dot
- 2001, a space odyssey
- 2010, odyssey two
- Solaris
- The Martian
- Song of ice and fire
- Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit

-- National Geographic subscriber since 1999

Movies... lots. Tongue
