I've been on a forum before where the moderators were a real bunch of pricks, and they'd close down threads because they deemed them "not good enough". Not for lack of replies, or anything like that. They just didn't like them.

Honestly, the less work the staff have to do, the better. That's why we have such complex rules in the first place. It's much easier to make things as clear cut as possible without having to resort to subjectivity in making a decision.

I understand and even partially agree with Tiberius' point.

It's just that these shit n runs are like someone walking up to you slapping you in the face and walking away.
It causes hostility and of course my general aggravation. 

...and I don't think we'd have to boot very many people for it.  Especially since there would obviously be a warning well before that took place.

If you need rules against being a dick, then you're going to have a lot of rules. That's what the almighty discressionary power of the Banhammer is for.

That being said, I disagree with the idea that some shit and run threads lead to a good discussion and so they are okay. The people who originally respond to a thread are attempting to engage with the OP, who is denying them the satisfaction of addressing their responses-- some of which may have taken many minutes or even an hour of careful thought. That's rude-- and in a particularly avoidable and unnecessary way.

Yes, occasionally someone might have rl problems that take them away for a few days. But it's pretty obvious when that's not the case, and people who act in a way that is likely to elicit reaction, but have no actual interest IN those reactions, don't deserve to be able to post anymore.
