NDE to change your life?
#11
RE: NDE to change your life?
FYI I new a black atheist and Vietnam Vet, back in the late 90s early 2000s. He told me about a heart attack he had had. Doctors diagnosed him as clinically dead at first, but finally caught a vital and kept going, he came back. He said he didn't remember a thing.

There is a difference between clinical death, and permanent death. Clinical death means they cant find a vital, permanent death is not only when there are no detectable vitals, but beyond the window where too many cells have been damaged.

If someone claims to have done a study on NDEs, they are only including those who report something. That is bad methodology and selection bias and sample rate error.

Some report euphoria seeing Jesus or loved ones. Others report seeing hell or demons or monsters or real rivals in their lives that hurt them in the past. Those are hallucinations as well based on prior superstitions they bought into over their lifetimes. Again, they may feel real, but they are NOT real.

RE: NDE to change your life?
If this NDE was one of those NDE's that mention Allah, contradict the bible, talked of reincarnation, or fit a different belief than yours you would have dismissed it just as easily as we do. So what makes the Christian NDE's "Real" and the other ones "Fake"? Isn't it more likely that they're all fake?

Imagine someone had an NDE and then came back and said "I saw god! She told me that Jesus was a false prophet, and not to follow him." Would you accept it? Or would you try to attribute it to something else? If the same person had mentioned they saw Jesus instead, you would have gladly accepted it and attempted to use it as proof that your god is real.

That's the difference between Atheists and Theists.

Christians: I accept the NDE's that feature Jesus, even though they're all entirely differently described. The ones that don't though, I don't accept those.
Muslims: I accept the NDE's that feature Allah, even though they're all entirely differently described. The ones that don't though, I don't accept those
Atheists: Those NDE's all have some other explanation other than actually being dead. All of them.

Of course some Christians don't accept NDE's at all, and some muslims don't either.

RE: NDE to change your life?
Let me see. By the age of 17, I was drinking, consorting with lewd women, fighting for the pure, sheer hell of it. I'd already been arrested for common assault and public drunkenness.

In November 1987, I was caught in an explosion that broke both of my legs and cost me my left eye, eight of my teeth, and a considerable amount of blood. The last thing I remembered was what felt like a hammer blow to my face, then I woke up three days later in hospital. I was told that I had coded for a little less than a minute - in the terms NDE loonies like to use, I was 'dead'. Here's the kicker - Jesus never showed up. Neither did Yahweh, Vishnu, Lugh, or any of their assorted hangers on.

So, TC, why do you think Jesus didn't come visit me and tell me to mend my wicked ways?

Definitely changed David Carradines life. Oh, wait. That was just a DE. Never mind.

Why did you claim you were an agnostic in another thread?

Jesus told me the same thing! He explained to his Jewish dad that he just wanted to study law and become a lawyer, but no, dad made him join the family business. The law degree is just in case they may need it one day.

Jesus just wanted to be a lawyer? He he, that's like any republican running now trying to argue the Constitution with Obama who has a degree in Constitutional law.
