I respond for the possible lurking theists.

Even though he's a POE and a troll, does not mean that he is not asking questions and making arguments that legitimate theists make.

Refuting bad arguments is still refuting bad arguments, no matter what the source of the bad argument.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

To answer the troll's OP's question - my only child is a Christian (thanks to my ex-wife). I'm not about to try and talk him out of it, although I do inform him of alternatives. He's welcome to believe and do what he wants to pursue.

I would support my child in whatever s/he wanted to do.

However, I sincerely doubt if I raised my child in an environment of reason that s/he would take that route.
