RE: Favorite book quotes
The first two both from Frank Herbert's Dune --

"What senses do we lack that we cannot perceive entire worlds around us?"

"Those who see only what they wish are doomed to rot in the stink of their own perceptions."

... and from Hemingway:

"Isn't it pretty to think so?"

Take just about any sentence from Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and you have a great quote.

"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

“Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.”

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

"You cannot hide from danger. Death floats on the air, creeps through the window, comes with the handshake of a stranger. If we stop living because we fear death, then we have already died." - The Soulforge by Margaret Weis.
