JFK to appear on Colbert to promote separation of church and state
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3Foq5uP1cQ

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), the largest freethought association in North America, today announced a fresh ad campaign featuring John F. Kennedy.

The ads will run on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert during the month of March to promote the separation of church and state. The spots are part of FFRF's "I'm Secular and I Vote" campaign to ensure the voices of the fastest-growing minority group in America are heard in the 2016 presidential election.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

World’s Largest Psychiatric Association Condemns Conversion Therapy

World Psychiatric Association (WPA) says: “WPA believes strongly in evidence-based treatment. There is no sound scientific evidence that innate sexual orientation can be changed. Furthermore, so-called treatments of homosexuality can create a setting in which prejudice and discrimination flourish, and they can be potentially harmful. The provision of any intervention purporting to “treat” something that is not a disorder is wholly unethical… Psychiatrists have a social responsibility to advocate for a reduction in social inequalities for all individuals, including inequalities related to gender identity and sexual orientation.”

Majority of people in Scotland have no religion

More than half of the 5.4 million people living in Scotland have no religion, according to a survey published by Scottish Social Attitudes.

The 52% of unaffiliated Scots represents a 12% jump from 16 years ago, when 40% of survey respondents said they had no religious affiliation.

Thousands quit Church of Denmark after atheist campaign

Thousands of people have cancelled their membership of Denmark's state Church following a campaign by atheists.

Nearly 3,000 baptised cancelled their membership last month after Denmark's Atheist Society, Ateistisk Selskab, launched a nationwide campaign advising people they could save money by opting out.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark is among several Churches in Europe subsidised by a Church tax. Although the tax is voluntary in Denmark, at a rate of around one per cent, Church members are automatically signed up and have to opt out rather than opt in.

Nearly eight in 10 Danish people are members of the Church of Denmark, known as "the People's Church". The Church is both Protestant and episcopally-led. Everyone who is baptised automatically becomes a member. Just 2.4 per cent of members attend every week.

Catholicism’s multi-billion dollar brand is struggling despite Pope Francis

The Catholic church is one of the oldest and most profitable brands in history. The drip feed of negative headlines associated with sexual abuse and its cover up has irreparably tarnished the Catholic brand for many.

There is a more fundamental threat to Catholicism however: irrelevance

In stark contrast to the socio-cultural values espoused by the church pope Francis has refocused Church's core brand strength of representing the vulnerable, and regained moral momentum through its campaigns focusing on peace, poverty, migration and the environment. The pope’s decision to take three refugee families back to the Vatican following his visit to Lesbos, for example.
Still there are the consequences of diverging from public opinions on and experiences of homosexuality, female equality, married life, sex and parenthood? Perhaps we can see it in the stunning decline of Catholic congregations across large parts of Europe and in North and South America.
Remember Nokia disappeared because it failed to keep up with the changing expectations of consumers over the size of its phone screens. Research suggests that anti-gay, anti-science attitudes are turning people away from religion in the US, for example. In a globalised and hyper-connected world, scandals, hypocrisy, lies, financial cover-ups, and generally obfuscated moral messages, are shared, picked apart and rejected faster than ever.

RE: Atheist struggle news
Over the last seven year period measured, about 18 or 1900 atheists were added each day in the USA while the number of Christians dropped by about 7500 a day. My estimates based on percentage increase of atheists from 1.6% to 3.1% of the population and Christians decreasing from 78% to 71%.
