An Intro: I might be deconverting

Another thing I didn't mention before is that my sister became an evangelical born again Christian a few years ago while teaching overseas. I'm not sure if she has continued in this since she came back home last fall, but she has told me on a few occasions that I am going to hell - not in an angry, mean way - I don't believe in hell, never really have, so I didn't feel like she was personally attacking me. I was curious and started the discussion with her about her beliefs, and asked her specifically, "do you believe I'm going to hell?" And she said yes. She would never use those words specifically to hurt me.

Interestingly enough, my dad is actually unhappy with her religious choice.

Religion is so... interesting. Kind of scary in the power it can have over people

Hello and welcome to the mad house. You should tell your sister to read her bible a bit more carefully because hell is never mentioned in the bible.

Wow, welcome to the forum. You're story of self discovery and introspection has inspired me. I too am climbing down the rabbit hole of establishing myself as an "agnostic" as I spent far to much time doing what you just explained: self judgement. I look forward to seeing your future posts!

Welcome to our little corner of the Internet; the conversion is fun, the people are awesome and the cookies are warm - but you do have to bus your own dishes. Smile

It seems like this guy hasn't been back since the day he posted this thread. That's too bad - I gather from your reactions to his story.

Necro-liscious!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Hopefully you will have a good time here.

Not to be pedantic, but atheism isn't really something one converts to. Atheism is just deconverting from whatever god beliefs one was indoctrinated into.

Idk, I view it as something to convert to. Tomato tomato.
