Supreme Court Nominee: Merrick Garland

See, I wouldn't have a problem with that.  I think Garland is a very reasonable choice.  And I think that, after all of the posturing by the senate republicans, any confirmation could only be conceptualized as an unqualified success for Obama.  He's not running for reelection again, so what does he care if the democratic establishment thinks he could've been bolder?

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

Obama IS weak.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I don't see how it would make him look weak. GOP Senators swore they wouldn't even meet any nominee he proposed, let alone confirm. The ideal situation would be for the president to put out nominees the GOP should take while they have the chance but get blocked, only to fail to gain the White House and lose Senate seats for their obstructionism, upon which we get a truly liberal justice; but we'll be grateful to have gotten in a moderate if it plays out the other way.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I do have a problem with it.  He's got a very limited and spotty record on Gay Rights, and has no record on abortion.   He also heavily sides with the police over Defendants.

Obama has a duty to make a good nominee, not a political one.  Especially since he won't be running for office again.

For those wondering about Garland's legal positions on things, here's a very helpful article from SCOTUSblog (the leading source of commentary on the US Supreme Court).  The article was written in 2010 (when Garland was likely the #2 candidate for the seat that ultimately went to Kagan) but contains some very in-depth discussion on his beliefs and rulings.

The Potential Nomination of Merrick Garland

The meat of the analysis is located a little farther down in the article from the intro.

The SCOTUS is the most segregated group in America.  Only Catholics and Jews are allowed and Harvard and Yale graduates.  The KKK is more integrated than the SCOTUS.  Even that bigot Scalia said that it's too discriminatory.  If we're lucky Trump will nominate someone outside of the club for a change.  Ginsburg should croak any day and there's no way she's going to make it another five years.  If we get really lucky they will all croak today.

Obama could nominate Jesus and they'd throw a fit.

Just what we need, another Jew on the SCOTUS.  There are other people in the US besides Catholics and Jews.

Nope sorry, the GOP is the party of bigots. Trump is running for that same party.

If you want someone outside the same, the GOP obstructionists need to confirm his nomination. His short list DID include non Catholics and non Jews. He won't offer them to congress because it would be pointless. And right now the brats on the right hate everything he does. Obama could shit gold and they would call it fake.
