If we're to continue the death penalty in practice -- and I'm against it, but not arguing that point right now -- if we are keeping it, why not use a nitrogen chamber?

Lethabarb or Euthol.

Jesus fucking christ, why is this so fucking complicated ??

Shit.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Firing squads are apparently used in some states. Bullets are pretty cheap.

Put it this way, I'd rather be shot than injected if I were to be executed.

Yeah. I mean what is so complicated about putting one or two high caliber bullets through someone's head? If you're going to execute someone, where are simple and cheap ways to do it.

The only thing that keeps us killing people is our powerful need to do so.  It's not as though it saves us any money or face...it doesn;t bring back the dead or undo a crime.......and, apparently....we've been killing innocent people on accident at a not-quite-insignificant rate....we've even executed people when we -knew- that they were innocent of the crime for which they were convicted (because, to defer to the governer who made that call..... he was a shitty person anyway, and the jury made it's decision).

....but...who doesn;t like a hanging, amiright?  Yeeeeehaw, Murica!

(@ chad, there aren't....actually..it's not as if it was the drugs or the electricity that cost all the cash when it comes to executions)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It's kind of weird how much of a ceremony we make out of the DP. Russia had it right (and China and Belarus still do). Single pistol shot to the head.

It's cheap and quick but still a bit scary to think about.

That said, as I age, I kind of understand the anti-DP side a bit more. I voted at one time for Ca. to end it since we barely use it anyway. Also, as much as it is potentially punitive, it doesn't reverse the past.

You think that's right?

Until you're on the receiving end, I guess. It can happen, you know. The innocence project has proven as much. I)f you're in for life, they can get you off. If they execute you, tough luck.

That's only one of the arguments speaking against capital punishments. The most personal one, since I guess not everyone of us is OJ, able to afford a first class team of lawyers.

Just call 911 and say that the guy is barricaded in his cell and is suicidal. The cops will show up and shoot him dead.  Happens every day IRL.

Never been a fan of lethal injection. It just looks pretty.

If you find the act of execution to disturbing, don't watch.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

If you're going to kill people, why not make the most of it. Shoot them with an artillerly cannon North Korea style, or blow them up with the world's biggest explosive, and let Discovery shoot a documentary about it. If you run a commercial just before the detonation, that alone'll play for the death row and legal expenses easy. The subjects are dead anyhow afterwards, this is criminally unused entertainment potential. Making entertainment out of killing people hardly qualifies as "unusual" anymore, and I fail to see how it would be more cruel than what's in place now.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
