Would you live in VR?

RE: Would you live in VR?
Well... if you want to know it's not real, you can do that if you want. It can just be whatever you like. Whatever would make you happiest. I would have assumed thinking it's real would be optimal. Whatever you want, you can have it. You can be as much like you, or not like you, as you want to be.

And yeah... it's pretty much Better than Life.

I would definitely go in.

Then it's a pointless question, any organism would go in, not just humans. So I suspect finding out what the answer is wasn't really a priority, you just wanted us to chat about VR?

@ EP it's not a pointless question. Rob is talking about this thought experiment:

The vast majority of people don't plug in.

I don't know what your objection is EP. If you don't like the question, my apologies and please ignore it.

I don't have an objection. I'm ever so subtly trying to make you realize you expressed your ideas erroneously. Maybe you'll do a better job next time. It can work both ways, for example I'm sure you can find some mistake in what I'm about to say since I'm not an expert on biology or evolution(that is to say, some here may know more about them than I do, including you, I suspect)

We're no different from organisms in that we seek to fulfill our evolutionary goals. Granted, we're better at it, so we might find the "portal" to that more suitable world easier, but the kind of VR you have in mind would undoubtedly benefit anything or anyone with a goal.

I think such a VR would create a number of philosophical problems for us, or rather, exarcebate them. Meaning would be one example I can think of.

It's funny you know, in the past I would have always plugged into the experience machine but now I'm ecstatically happy I don't want to anymore.
