I lived about a year right off NAS Memphis in Millington TN. Watching them shoot touch-and-gos for prelim carrier quals, wings wide open, afterburners open wider, was indeed amazing. Props to anyone strapping a plane to their ass and taking their chances.
I went to avionics school there in the 90s. Dang I'm old now.

Mine sucks. I wanted to be a fucken preacher. That's all I ever saw at home and in our little floating bubble traveling around wherever my parents started their next church. Sigh.
Instead I work in a cubicle all day and come home to a little thing called Af at night. Hallelujah!

I wanted to be a teacher, then realized I hate kids.
Then I wanted to be a doctor, but volunteering in a nursing home for six months made me realize I don't want to do that either.

In high school, I wanted to be a teacher as well, either at university or college (public). But eventually I realised that I don't like to lecture, and the only thing that appealed to me was grading papers and other things and making the syllabi/grading criteria (latter of which might not be my job, anyhow, but the head's).

First I wanted it to be something with trains (I'm still to this day boring my wife with the compelling features of the 101 locomotive whenever we see one).
Then I wanted to be a palaeontologist (the dinosaur is strong in this one), and that was before Jurassic Park came out #DinoHipster
Then I wanted to become an electroacoustic engineer or electrical engineer. Then I wanted to become a computer scientist and work on AI. Then I wanted to become a physicist or mathematician. Finally I became a theoretical physicist. And a science writer/author. Who knows what I'll become next.
