No 2001? for it's time (1968 I think) it had some of the best special effects (pre CGI) fairly accurate science (no sound in space!) the film is actually easier to understand if you read the book first though!

Good list (kudos for including Moon), but I hope you only left out my top 3 pick, Alien, because of genre considerations Smile

And it's as boring as watching paint dry. Without "chemical enhancement" it's just ... dead.

I wanted to put Aliens on there, but those are more horror movies than sci-fi so, yeah, genre considerations.
