According to the gunman's father, it's a homophobic crime:

But I don't see that that is a distinction that matters. Islam is even more gay intolerant than evangelical christianity. I can't imagine his homophobia is unrelated to Islam.
I also doubt even more stringent gun control would have stopped him. He was a rent a cop who had and even under stricter controls would have had plenty of gun access.

I was wondering how long it would be until I saw the "nothing to do with religion" deflections come out the woodwork.

Maybe, just maybe people should stop making religion about fucking hate. But then how ever are you going to recruit anyone to give you all their money?
I'm just waiting for some piece of shit (probably a Robertson or a Falwell) to blame this on gay marriage. Apparently god is Allah according to some Christians, because he's been choosing Muslims to do his dirty work.

The only reason anyone would hate a gay person is because of a religious influence. There can be no other reason. If there is I would like someone to point it out.

KUSA, we used to have a very homophobic atheist around the boards. He claimed to be unnatural to be gay yada, yada, yada. Fortunately, he stopped posting on his own.
