[split] Tea Party & Racism
#21
RE: [split] Tea Party & Racism
Tea party members deny being racist. And some of them are not overtly racist, so they do not think of themselves as racist.

I know people who are tea party members. They claim they are not racist and are insulted at the idea that the tea-party movement is a racist movement. They decry the tea party express, they state they wish that the signs calling Obama a nigger didn't exist, so on, so forth.

And yet....

I was in an interracial relationship, and they strongly made their disapproval known. They automatically assume a black/brown person is guilty of whatever accusation is levied while giving a white person the benefit of the doubt. They assume a business with a noticeable number of brown employees is hiring illegals. They automatically assume anyone middle eastern is a Muslim and assume all Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists.

And they don't actually think any of the above is racist, so naturally, they deny being racist.

They pull that 'hate the sin, not the sinner' bullshit and genuinely believe that they are denying rights to gays for their own good, and so they deny being homophobes.

They genuinely believe a woman's place is in the home, being a mom, and every good red-blooded boy loves his mamma, so they deny being sexist. They 'know' a woman is happiest being a wife and mother and that is best for society, so they genuinely do not believe they are being sexist by pushing a woman back to the kitchen.

Since their way is 'right and good', they genuinely cannot see that they are wrong to force their ways on others, and thus scream that they are not racist, not intolerant, not homophobes, not sexist, etc....

They don't consider any other viewpoints, and thus cannot rationally evaluate their actions from an objective point of view.

That is why the hypocrisy is so strong in the Tea-Party movement.

In His Mind, once again, I love how you can say what I was trying to say, but far better than I could.
