And that's fine. I wouldn't think to shout you down over it, either.

I wouldn't want to ban bare chested pics of men, nor am I comfortable with providing easy access to bare chested pics of ladies to young kids who may come to this site.

As anyone who's read that thread in its entirety can see, I'm sympathetic in part to the staff's view.

For me, that's just the standard. And it seems to be the standard for whoever is paying for the site... so... who are we to go against them?

We're members, that's who we are; surely on a forum so wholeheartedly set against censorship should permit dissent, right? Well, formal staff action is not the only way to stifle dissent. Allowing a piñata party to continue when you have in that same thread a couple of mods complaining about how the thread had legs was odd, but it had the unintended effect of telling the membership, "It's okay, pile on," I think.

I used to moderate at TAF, and a big mistake we made there was allowing that sort of behavior, because it chased away new membership, which is of course the lifeblood of any forum. Between that and an owner who screwed everyone under, we didn't survive. I don't think it's nearly so bad here -- for one thing, I think Tibs as an owner is head and shoulders above Wayne at TAF; for another, the beatdowns don't happen so often here. But I see it as a little troubling in a forum dedicated to serving heterodoxy.

I was using "our" in the singular, general sense, which is why I included the word "each"

Being unfair to both sexes just so it's the same for both makes no sense. Changing an actual rule to promote equal unfairness for all makes even less sense.

Limiting freedoms for additional people will never be fair. Two wrongs do not make a right and doubling unfairness does not make fairness.

I'm not reopening that argument. I already know that you will not, no matter what, change your mind on the subject.

I'd change my mind if I felt that limiting freedoms to twice as many people was more fair than limiting freedoms to half as many (I think it's clearly twice as unfair). It's not true that I wouldn't change my mind if there was a better reason.

There's nothing wrong with dissent. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with how things are done and speaking up about it. It would have been better recieved if it were better presented. And it wouldn't have hurt to not throw wild conspiracy theories and offensive accusations. At that point I think most people were done with civil discussion. You want to have a decent discussion on it, start your own thread about it. That particular thread is a dead end for real discussion. I don't even think anyone was overly mean. People were just having a laugh because the OP read as trollbait.

Jeebs. I love tits as much as the next bisexual, and I'm all for equal rights... but this crap has spilled over something like five threads. If the OP of the nudity thread was trying to stir things up (and I don't claim to know, nor will I speculate on whether she was or wasn't), she's sure done a fabulous job!
