The States Are The Laboratories of Democracy!
You can bet your sweet ass that the republicunts don't want this experiment!

Quote:Disgusted With Sky-High Drug Prices, California Voters Take On Big Pharma

Quote:Enormous public frustration with the skyrocketing prices of essential medicines in the US has not yet led to any meaningful reform. But a historic initiative on the November ballot in California, championed by health care and consumer advocates and fiercely opposed by multinational drug corporations, may finally rein in Big Pharma.

It is hard to overstate the level of dysfunction in the US medicines system. The headline-producing greed of "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli was just the most dramatic example of a pharmaceutical industry whose patent monopolies grant it immunity from market forces while its political clout shields it from government regulation. Taking full advantage of taxpayer-funded research, drug corporations make record profits, even by Fortune 500 standards, and pay their CEOs as much as $180 million a year. Those corporations spend far more on incessant marketing to consumers and physicians than they do on research -- part of the reason they have largely failed to develop new medicines that address the most deadly illnesses and diseases.

The pharmacological industry is manifestly NOT interested in producing low-cost, highly effective meds. Why should they be? Healthy poor people are a lousy target market.

A very good example of why unchained capitalism would be a nightmare. Many countries subsidy healthcare with tax money and offer at the very least affordable care to it's citizens. In my opinion this should be one fundamental human right in a civilized society. Along with access to clean water and at the very least food. With no strings attached.

Worse they seem to be more interested in creating drugs for non-existent problems ( restless leg syndrome?  non-24? ) than trying to find drugs which could deal with antibiotic resistant bacteria.

They don't want to cure anything....they just want you to take their fucking pill for the rest of your life.

It pays to treat the symptoms than to cure it.
Ethically wrong but you know shit happens this is the U.S. healthcare system in a nutshell.
I mean after all you get punished by your insurance since you earn a decent wage while those
who are struggling paycheck to paycheck get cheaper insurance than those who earn more.
I mean after all paying for the penalty is cheaper for not having health insurance in the end
than having it. But... it's ridiculous just ridiculous to penalize the uninsured But hey this is america
and WE LOVE capitalism.

I'm not super well versed in this topic or anything, but if socialized medicine was a better model for making drugs to cure diseases wouldn't one of the countries that has it have invented all these super cures by now?
