While we as atheists know that 'souls' are a steaming pile of religious crappola, the religious folks are nevertheless encumbered with every jot and tittle of that nonsense and we should insist they conduct themselves appropriately.

And once again, an atheist is insisting the churchy folks do their religion correctly despite reams of evidence they are manifestly uninterested in aspects of their own faith they find inconvenient . . . .

You're hoping the cognitive dissonance does the work for you...but might it backfire and push them into total fundamentalism?

How often does admonishing a slacker result in the total transformation of the slacker into a hard working go getter ? 

We're pretty safe here in challenging them as I'm betting the endemic slackerism is going to triumph over all.
 
Had we been several centuries earlier, yeah, there might be some risk of inciting a new crop of fundies, but in this era, the religious folks themselves have done the work for us in diluting the brand to almost nothing as it is.  Shaming them the last 5% of the way (to unfaithism)  isn't too much to hope for.

It works sometimes. As a child I once told an adult I was bored. He said "Perhaps that's because you are a boring person?" The shock of self realization was life changing. I vowed to never allow myself to be a boring bored person.

I wish you all the success in getting believers off the teat of The Book, I have similar goals.
