The stupidity of sin
#21
RE: The stupidity of sin
Apparently, a penchant for shellfish and poly cotton blends. Some law, some lawgiver. What are we even discussing here...the sin bar is simlutanbeously low and high. All you need to fall afoul of it is to like shrimp (or be born)...and no one, no one (if believers are to be believed) can satisfy the conditions of sinlessness. It's pretty easy not to give a shit, even if this "sin" nonsense actually existed...which it doesn't. Neither does your god, which makes no law gods law by default.

Remind me, what was your question again>?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Going by the Bible, not simply unbelief. Many believers sin as well.

What bible have you been reading?

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; - 1 John 3:9

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - John 3:17-18

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.- Jude 5

and how can the rest of us discern the believers in our midst ?

Why, Scripture to the rescue again:

they can speak in tongues

they can heal the sick by the laying on of hands

they can handle deadly serpents

they can drink poison

Praise Jesus !!!!

None of the verses you quoted equate sin to unbelief.

I can't accept, because that would negate my "unbelief."

Someone defying Jesus would be believing in him.

We are replete with 'believers' that think they know better than Jesus on all matter of topics.

Then you answer your own question. Jesus died to pardon you for your unbelief. A pardon is no good unless it's accepted.

Obviously you must believe in order to accept...

RE: The stupidity of sin
The dictionary definition of sin is: "an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law."

Biblically speaking, however, sin seems to be something different. Contrary to what Huggy cited, in 1 John; Romans 3:23 states "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Basically, everyone is a sinner. The only way to absolve oneself of sin is through accepting God through JC. I will allow you to be created imperfectly (with sin attached), grant you free will, and give you a choice between me and perdition. It's a clever mechanism, in the form of a trap, to herd us humans into God's kingdom.

Romans 3 doesn't have the good old "Worship me or suffer the consequences" themes, and it's sort of told from the perspective of someone who is concerned about their worthiness, in God's eyes, due to being uncircumcised. In the end, though, it was decided to amend the divine law by including the gentiles (who were uncircumcised) as those who could receive God's grace. In a world where only 1's and 0's exist, I will administer an eligibility test; and the only way to pass this eligibility test is to be a 1 or 0. Ok, tangent over.

Does it all really matter? No. Why? Because it's a bunch of nonsense written in an old book.
“Life is like a grapefruit. Well, it's sort of orangey-yellow and dimpled on the outside, wet and squidgy in the middle. It's got pips inside, too. Oh, and some people have half a one for breakfast.”  - Ford Prefect
