Why does it seem like a cult to me?

Am I being paranoid? Huh

No, it's because these multilevel marketing outfits employ much of the same psychological tricks as cults in order to motivate and bind their members. From the footage I've seen of some MLM meetings, the way they celebrate members who have reached certain goals as role models to aspire to, the way they propagate success stories, and the way they create a super euphoric atmosphere is very similar to e.g. Scientology celebrating some guy's new OT status.

Amway is a business model that convinces people to convince other people it is better to mail order their toilet paper.
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!

Because in order to get people to sign up to a pyramid scheme, you have to get them to suspend disbelief and believe in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  You therefore get people who KNOW for sure their financial expectations will come true, and who have been specifically taught to ignore evidence to the contrary.

I would say it very much is a corporate cult, because it uses some cult-like brainwashing techniques to get people to chase a dream whose main outcome is that Amway gets a team of salesmen for free.

I started Amway because I think (and I may be wrong, ofc), that is a quasi-religious organization.
I met their recruiters in a shopping mall (one of them was in training), and to me they were like Jehovah Witnesses or Mormons.
How they started, 'You look like an artistic type'.

I know too little to determine it, but from the little I've read about it and its parent company Alticor, it's one of those businesses that sell "all natural" bullshit products.
