Religion is the system used by people to explain god, and to propogate the belief in that god. So if a religion is bad it is almost certainly because the concept of god thought up by the creators of the religion is bad. The reason why the three desert religions are so bloodthirsty is because the people who invented yhwh invented him originally as a racist war god who couldn't accept worship of any other god by anybody.

Oh and I also note that your idea begs the question of gods existence. In order for you to seriously pose that question, wouldn't it be a better idea for you to show that the god you're talking about actually exists?

Maybe a more productive way of discussing something with actual people is to ask US questions about what our thoughts and feelings on the subject are...like, "hey guys. I'm just curious why you don't believe in God?"  As opposed to telling us what you have already decided based off of common misconceptions of atheism.

That is how normal people with sincere curiosity exchange ideas you know...

I can hate a fictional character within the context of its fictional setting; it can arouse emotions in me. Those emotions don't carry over into the real world. I don't really hate that character as if it was real. I don't go and beat the shit out of an actor playing a character I hate.

I've heard of people doing this actually. Maybe not beating up, but hurling abuse at actors from soap operas because they seem to think the person is actually the character.
