“I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The shit they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a fucking thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.” - George Carlin
Or......"When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President. Now I'm beginning to believe it." - Clarence Darrow

I'm not sure I understand the question Vor?

It's probably important to note that my comment above wasn't support for nader or any position he held, but support for people who voted for who they wanted in, not against who they didn't - regardless of whether or not their support was mistaken or wrong by someone else's metric, or it carried a risk of failure even by their own.

I respect that, and to my mind, it's a requirement of a functioning democracy rather than a disappointment based toilet swirling oligarchy.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

In a world where this odious blob of rectal puss can be the President of USA, reason has clearly failed - might as well give superstition a whirl.

Just because we Americans may be about to throw our reason and judgment into the trash doesn't mean you have to, as well.

If Trump actually becomes President, we'll need the civilized nations to remain civilized more than ever.

True, big brother won't be around to bail you fuckers out for a few years.   Wink

It robs them of the "well, I have to vote for one of them, so I have to pick x".  Uh, no, you don't have to.  You want to, you're willing to.

Completely agree with you here. I do want to vote for a smart, seasoned, knowledgeable person who is able to move/negotiate across a wide variety of interest groups to achieve political ends, something that is extremely difficult in the US generally but in the current climate especially. Please, allow me to go on record as enthusiastically supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

No, I can't allow you that out. Everyone who can do anything about it will share an equal responsibility for either doing that little something they could have done or for holding out for pie in the sky (assholes) or for falling for Trump's totalitarian fantasies (suckers). If Clinton goes on an imperialist military crusade I'm more than ready to own my bad. You boys just be ready to do the same.

His argument, taken seriously, was sexist and seriously misinformed regarding the reasons people don't like Clinton. People aren't not voting for her because they don't like her voice, they're not voting for her because she is dishonest and people don't like that.

Taken seriously, his statement "if you don't vote for anyone you're an asshole" is just ignorant. An election is about voting for the person who you want to be President. That's it. If there aren't any candidates that you want as your President, well, then you don't have to vote for any of them. That's how our democracy works, and it's a good thing.

Yeah, I liked it cuz it was funny and he agrees with me.  For some of the Dumfuckistanies living in the US hinterland like my sister, I think his message might actually carry weight.  I don't expect it to work on the educated or dedicated idealists.

Or it would be if the truly clueless and uneducated had any appreciation of history or were able to spot an obvious would-be totalitarian strongman.

I'm almost 60, my health insurance premiums are in the 5 figures, my coverage was just canceled, I'm looking for new coverage, I have to find a physician that's covered by the plan and isn't put off by some 'lifestyle' concerns and has some experience with 12 Steppers and [sigh] geriatric medicine.  And I think it's clear I ain't been too fucking happy about changes to the health care system . . . . .

But was it really so peachy before Obama care?  Where you living?
