The Saudis and Qataris made charitable donations. They are owed nothing. What they might want is irrelevant because they have no power to get it.

Whereas I;d spend the money, and if the gift giver said "now you owe me" I'd remind them that it wasn't a loan or an agreement of services, and that they shouldn't have given me the money...but that now they were sol..because hookers and blow, baby!

Are you really naive enough to think the Clintons have scruples, now? Are you saying they - or more precisely their charitable foundation, but whatever - wouldn't take free money and run? You don't seem to be very consistent, when describing the "monsters" those people are. LOL... Clintons are professional campaigners - they know they can take rich people's money in return for empty promises. I though you'd know that... Tongue

A few million dollars here and there is nothing for Saudis and the like - they're perfectly happy to waste that kind of money on entertainment, or just having minor celebrities attend their parties. It's not like they're going to declare war, because Hilary hussled them for some charity money.

So, in other words, you don't hold your politicians to a very high moral standard. You're just fine with having them give speeches to brutal Fascist dictators. To be clear: they didn't just give to the Clinton Foundation, they paid Bill and Hilary to give speeches. And it's not just a few million; the Clintons have received tens if millions from Arab butchers.

It's no coincidence that the Obama Administration has sold more weapons to Saudi than any other presidency. These weapons are being used right now to terrorise the people of the Yemen and Wikileaks showed that Hilary knows Saudi and Qatar give weapons to DAESH but she is still chummy with them. Why does she continue to take money from them knowing how vicious they are? They are really not giving money to be charitable. That's just so stupid. They want American support and Murray hardware. They won't make the weapons themselves after all.

*shrug* I work with what I've got. Politicians are not exactly known for high moral standards, anywhere. Welcome to the real world.

Yeah, well - then they heard some over-priced speeches. Probably could have downloaded them off the internet, but you know what they say about fools and their money...

Same difference.

Who gives a sh*t what they want? Money goes to charity and it has nothing to do with whatever military equipment they buy from the US. I have news for you - US factories need to do something with all those boom-boom-sticks they churn out, or else hundreds of thousands of hard-working 'Murricans will lose their defense manufacturing jobs. And whomever you sell your weapons to - chances are they're going to use them to do some grizzly sh*t.

Sure - it might be nice if US could stop being such a gun-loving country and reduce the size of its defense sector, but is Jill Stein going to achieve that? I sincerely doubt it.

Hey Alasdair, are these the kinds of responses conducive to rational debate you were talking about?

Post hoc ergo propter hoc. The fact is that we've been arming the Saudis for decades, in order to counter-balance Iran's play at dominating the region; we're using them as a counter-balance. Indeed, the Yemeni civil war is in fact a semi-proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

You act as if you're entirely unaware that we sold arms to SA thirty years before Clinton led the State Dept, and you act as if you're entirely unaware of the national-interest motivations which (rightly or wrongly) have guided that policy.

If there's anyone who might -benefit- from paying one of the leaders of the free world to speak it's probably an ignorant despot.  They really need to hear someone explain how it's all done, because they're kind of fucking it up, right?

As to american weapons and whether or not it would be nice if we stopped making so many, I guess that depends on which side of those american weapons you find yourself on.  I'd rather be behind them than in front of them myself.  We make some nice shit. These folks who buy our guns, they're going to buy them from somebody. Wanna give Putin that money? I don't. Look at the fucking commercial he's running for his weapons in syra right now.
