Mythology and Religion

Just a random thought, no idea of what to make of it.

Religion itself isn't what I would classify as the myth. For instance: God is a myth, but the religion of Christianity isn't. It's just an organization of people who believe in the mythological figurehead (god) associated with it. At some point it will follow suit with every other religion over the course of history, and become obsolete.

Ah, makes sense. So it it's more of a part of it.

Not if you're not invested in a religion.

Myths are simply stories. Religion is more than just stories. Religion may or may not include myths/legends, doctrines, rituals, priests, oracles/prophets, etc.

RE: Mythology and Religion
Theology is the application of philosophy and science to mythology. Religion is the product that is sold to the masses. Mythologers create the materials from which theologians earn their bread, using the knowledge discovered and gathered by philosophers and scientists, and then "interpreting" the myths for the purposes of religion. Yet, to the masses, who perceive mostly the mythology, and some rudimentary claims of theology -- which, at the end of the day, exists solely to justify the myths -- the myth often looks much different; the theologian and the religious or mythologist resemble each other in basic concepts, but apply them to reality on a spectrum that extends from extremely literal to completely metaphorical; but those devils are in the details, which are often lost to the masses in theological balderdash.

I'm pretty sure mythology and religion are two different things, although related to one another.

Yes.  Mythology is a known whore, religion just dresses like one.

That's an apt way of putting it, but I'd say it's the other way around.

I had considered:

Mythology is a known whore, religion just takes your money for telling you what you want to believe
